‘Om’ Defined

Om Defined | comingom.com

I was first introduced to the Om chant when I started my yoga practice, as the very first and very last sound that I heard in every class. As I began to learn more about what it actually represented, it quickly began to take power in many other areas of my life, outside of just yoga. And so, over the last few years, Om has become such an important symbol for me — so much so that I named this blog after it.

The word om, which has roots in Sanskrit, is a big and powerful word. It is said to represent all that is divine and powerful. It is is also known as the sound of all things that exist, have existed, or will exist — the past, present, and future. Chanting Om calms and focuses the mind. It immediately starts the person chanting on the path to enlightenment, moving her into a more introspective space and closer to a higher level of consciousness.

I see Om as both the destination and the journey to greater awareness and deeper connections. So when I named this blog Coming Om, it was meant to describe the path to self-awareness, acceptance, and improvement that many of us are currently on. My intention is that this blog can be used as a tool to move us all closer to that place.
